System Reload


The following document details are considered a system reload. Customers should be made aware of this definition and should be encouraged to read over this document.

Backup of old drive:

When Possible. NOTE: Often hard drives have corrupt data and/or physical damage in which case the data may not be available to be copied to a second drive. Our policy is to contact the customer if this is the case (Ocean Computer Centre Ltd. is not responsible for data loss).

The back up is an image of the original drive. An image is an exact copy of the original drive, sometimes referred to as a ghost image.

When the reload is complete the ghosted data can be copied to the reloaded drive, software can not be copied back, if there is no original CD the programs will be lost.

System HDD (Hard Disk Drive):

Is formatted to prepare for new installation of OS (Operating System).

The Operating System:

Installation NOTE: The Product License # is needed to reload the OS. If this Product License # cannot be provided, the OS cannot be installed.

Driver Updates:

NOTE: In some cases, usually with older computers, some of the drivers may be more difficult to locate. In this eventuality, the customer is contacted. There will be additional charges for locating and installing these drivers.

The system OS is then updated using Microsoft website updates i.e., Windows 98/SE, Windows XP/Home/Professional.

Internet setup

NOTE: All available info about the customer's internet account is required. ISP (Internet Service Provider), usernames and passwords, for the internet connection account, (hotmail, yahoo, and msn usernames and passwords are not required). If any of the data provided is incorrect, this can cause unnecessary delays while the customer is contacted. We have a working relationship with KLIS (Kwik Link) and Eastlink (HSI) and we are able to contact them to obtain any info required. However, with Aliant (Sympatico) and Auracom, if incorrect information is provided to us, the customer will have to contact the ISP to obtain their info. Email is also setup and the above applies to email settings as well

Old Data:

Is copied back to C:\OLD DATA directory and a shortcut is placed on the desktop. NOTE: Only data can be copied back to HDD i.e., pictures, documents, audio, video files, ETC… However, data restoration depends on the integrity of the backed up data. The copying process does not damage or restore data files. (Ocean Computer Centre Ltd. is not responsible for data loss). Programs cannot be copied from one drive to another.



Software Installation:

NOTE: It has been our practice to install 2 small programs with a reload. These programs are required during the system reload process. They are WinZip and Acrobat Reader.

Software programs are needed to access data files you have created. If software programs are needed i.e. Simply Accounting then it will be by the hour ($40.00/hr) see Extras. Other software can be reloaded by customer if they so wish to do so.

Printers: (Printer must be brought in)

NOTE: The printer, software, power cord or adapter are required to setup the printer

Extras:

Priced at an hourly rate $40.00/hr

Scanners - The scanner, software, power cord or adapter are required to set the scanner up

Cameras - The Camera, software, camera to pc cable, power cord or adapter are required to set the camera up

Video Cameras - The Video Camera, software, video camera to pc cord, power cord or adapter is required to set the camera up

Specific Software - Software can be reinstalled only if the customer can provide a working software CD/DVD + a valid product key or serial number. (Copied CD/DVD or Damaged CD/DVD are not considered working copies)

The customer must install software, such as ICQ, Yahoo, MSN, MIRC, or any downloaded software, and the customer is responsible for his/her passwords and usernames.

Sensitive data:

Specific Software, i.e., Simply Accounting, Quicken, MS Money Lotus ETC… , the original CD and products key are required for these programs to be reinstalled. Data is again, the responsibility of the customer; we will do everything that we can to ensure the integrity of your pre-existing data. Data can only be imported if there is a working copy of the backup files.

Personal Settings:

Bookmarks can be copied only if there is a working backup of the original data.

Email:
- address books and messages do not always import well
- address books and messages can be copied only if there is a working backup of the original data.

We will do everything we can to recover any personal settings. However, restoration depends on the integrity of the backed up data.
